The Inspiration Behind This Irresistible No-Bake Vegan Chocolate Mousse Pie
A few weeks ago, we shared our Vegan Chocolate Mousse recipe, and the response was overwhelming! It quickly became a viral sensation across Instagram and TikTok, captivating audiences with its surprisingly simple “secret ingredient.” The feedback was phenomenal, with many enthusiastic followers suggesting that we transform this beloved mousse into a pie. The idea immediately resonated, promising an even grander, more shareable dessert experience. And so, this magnificent no-bake vegan mousse pie was born!
Initially, I considered a classic graham cracker crust. However, the vision for this dessert was to create a truly no-bake masterpiece from start to finish. This led to the innovation of a unique, plant-based crust crafted from the natural goodness of Medjool dates and a selection of nutritious nuts. This creative pivot ensures that the entire pie remains oven-free, making it an ideal dessert for warm weather, busy schedules, or anyone looking for a simple yet show-stopping creation. This date and nut crust not only binds beautifully but also imparts a rich, chewy texture and a subtle, natural sweetness that perfectly complements the velvety chocolate mousse filling.

One of the most appealing aspects of this vegan mousse pie is its incredible ease and speed of preparation. The entire process, from start to finish, demands approximately 10 minutes of active work. Once assembled, it simply requires some time in the refrigerator to set, allowing the flavors to meld and the mousse to achieve its perfect, silken consistency. This makes it an excellent candidate for a make-ahead dessert, ideal for dinner parties, holidays, or any occasion where you want to impress without the last-minute stress. Once set, this pie keeps beautifully in the fridge for a good 5 days, ensuring you can savor its deliciousness over multiple sittings or prepare it well in advance of your event.
Key Ingredients for an Unforgettable Vegan Chocolate Mousse Pie
The success of this no-bake pie hinges on a few essential ingredients, each playing a crucial role in creating its unique flavor and texture profile. Let’s delve into the stars of this recipe:
- Natural Delights Pitted Medjool Dates: These are more than just a sweetener; they are the natural binder for our no-bake crust, providing incredible chewiness and a rich, caramel-like depth that enhances the entire pie. Their natural moisture helps to create a perfectly firm and flavorful base.
- Raw Nuts: The choice of nuts offers versatility and adds essential healthy fats and a delightful texture to the crust. While I personally love a blend of cashews and walnuts for their buttery notes and subtle crunch, feel free to experiment with almonds or pecans for a slightly different flavor profile. Each option contributes its unique character to the overall experience.
- Oat Flour: A fantastic gluten-free addition, oat flour helps to absorb excess moisture and gives the crust a more cohesive, pastry-like structure, ensuring it holds together beautifully without any baking. It also adds a wholesome, slightly earthy flavor.
- Silken Tofu: This is our “secret ingredient” and the true hero of the mousse filling. Don’t let the idea of tofu in a dessert intimidate you! Silken tofu is remarkably neutral in flavor, allowing the chocolate to shine. Its smooth, creamy texture is ideal for creating a light, airy, and incredibly luxurious mousse, while also adding a welcome boost of plant-based protein.
- Melted Chocolate: The heart of any chocolate pie! I prefer an extra dark chocolate for a deep, intense flavor that balances the sweetness of the dates and maple syrup. However, any good quality dairy-free chocolate – whether semi-sweet or dark – will work beautifully. Ensure it’s fully melted and smooth for a silky mousse.
- Coconut Oil (for the crust): Just a touch of melted coconut oil helps to bring the crust ingredients together, adding a subtle richness and ensuring a uniform, pressable texture.
- Maple Syrup (for the filling): A natural sweetener that complements the chocolate and dates, providing a nuanced sweetness without being overpowering. It helps to enhance the overall flavor complexity.
- Vanilla Extract (for the filling): A classic flavor enhancer, vanilla extract deepens the chocolate notes and adds a layer of aromatic warmth to the mousse.

Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups of raw nuts, I used a mix of cashews and walnuts but almonds and pecans would also work well!
- 1 ½ cups of pitted Natural Delights Medjool dates
- ⅓ cup of oat flour
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, melted
- 1 package of silken tofu, 1 pound or about 450g*, drained
- 150 g of dark chocolate, or other dairy free chocolate, melted
- 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- Optional for topping: whipped cream, fresh fruit
Instructions
-
To make the crust, add the raw nuts, Medjool dates, oat flour, and melted coconut oil to a food processor. Blend until the mixture is well combined and has a sticky, crumbly texture with very few large chunks remaining. This process typically takes about 2 minutes, ensuring a uniform consistency for the crust.
-
Transfer the crust mixture into a round pie pan. Using your fingers or the back of a spoon, firmly press the mixture into the bottom and up the sides of the pan, forming an even layer that mimics a traditional pie crust. Place the prepared crust into the freezer while you prepare the filling, allowing it to firm up.
-
For the decadent filling, add the drained silken tofu, melted dairy-free chocolate, maple syrup, and vanilla extract into a high-speed blender. Blend until the mixture is completely creamy and smooth, ensuring no lumps remain. This should take approximately one minute.
-
Carefully pour the rich chocolate mousse mixture into the chilled pie crust. Gently smooth out the top with a spatula to create an even surface. Cover the pie with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least one hour, or until the mousse is firm and set. Once chilled, slice and serve. Enhance its presentation and flavor with optional toppings like fresh berries or a dollop of vegan whipped cream. Enjoy every blissful bite!
-
Store any leftover pie in an airtight container or covered securely with plastic wrap in the refrigerator. It’s best served chilled, as the crust can soften slightly if left at room temperature for extended periods.
