Our Inaugural Blog Survey

As I often revisit some of my most cherished blogs for inspiration and enjoyment, I’ve noticed a delightful trend: engaging personal surveys. These surveys offer a fantastic way to peel back the layers and truly connect with readers on a more personal level. Inspired by one such fun questionnaire I discovered while browsing the wonderful content over at Two Thirds Hazel, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to share a little more about myself. So, let’s dive in and explore some of my quirky preferences and passions!

My Favorite Things: A Deep Dive into a Personal Survey

This “get-to-know-me” survey is a wonderful journey through some of the simple yet significant aspects of my life. From the hues that catch my eye to the activities that ignite my spirit, each question is a chance to share a piece of my world with you. I hope you enjoy discovering these tidbits as much as I enjoyed reflecting on them.

Favorite Color

Oh, this is always such a challenging question! My absolute “favorite” color seems to have a mind of its own, shifting with my mood and the season. However, if I had to choose one hue that consistently draws me in, a color I perpetually gravitate towards, it would undoubtedly be pale pink. I know, I know—it might evoke images of a whimsical five-year-old’s dream world, but there’s a certain sophisticated charm and gentle warmth to pale pink that I find utterly captivating.

It’s not just any pink; I’m talking about soft, dusty rose tones, blush, and subtle salmon shades that exude elegance and calm. These aren’t the vibrant, loud pinks, but rather the muted, ethereal ones that whisper serenity. They remind me of delicate flowers, soft sunsets, and the comforting embrace of a cozy blanket. Pale pink has a unique ability to feel both playful and refined, feminine yet strong. It’s a color that brightens a space without overwhelming it, bringing a subtle joy and a touch of romance to everyday life. It’s a color that consistently makes me smile, reflecting a part of my personality that appreciates beauty, softness, and a hint of timeless grace.

Just looking at images like these, adorned with varying shades of pale pink, is enough to make my heart flutter. The way this color transforms an ordinary setting into something truly magical and inviting reaffirms my allegiance to pink. It’s a color that promises sweetness, beauty, and a gentle escape, making it a constant source of visual delight for me. This aesthetic truly makes me swoon, solidifying pale pink as my forever favorite.

Favorite Number

Choosing a favorite number is a bit more straightforward for me, though perhaps for a rather nostalgic reason. I’m going to confidently pick the number five. There isn’t a deep, philosophical meaning behind it, nor does it have any profound mystical significance in my life. Instead, its special place stems from a fond childhood memory that has stuck with me throughout the years.

Growing up, my brother and I were inseparable, especially when it came to sports. Whether we were playing on local teams, practicing in the backyard, or just dreaming about becoming professional athletes, the number five was our unofficial lucky charm. For whatever reason—perhaps its symmetrical balance, its unique sound, or just a simple, unspoken agreement—we always chose the number five for our sports jerseys. It became our go-to, our personal emblem on the field or court. This shared tradition forged a subtle bond, a little secret handshake between us. To this day, the number five brings back a flood of cherished memories of teamwork, friendly competition, and the carefree days of youth. It represents that innocent, competitive spirit and the enduring connection with my brother, making it my undeniable favorite.

Favorite Non-Alcoholic Drink

This question always elicits an internal debate! Logically, and health-consciously, I should proudly declare water as my favorite. My inner voice often prompts, “Say water! It’s the right answer, the healthy answer.” However, I was raised with a strong belief in honesty, and lying, even to myself on a blog survey, just isn’t my style. The unvarnished truth is, I harbor a profoundly deep, almost indescribable love for Coca-Cola.

It’s not just any cola; it absolutely has to be Coca-Cola. Pepsi, bless its heart, just doesn’t hit the same spot. There’s something about the distinct, crisp, and effervescent taste of a cold Coca-Cola that I find utterly irresistible. I’m fully aware of its less-than-stellar nutritional profile—the sugar, the calories, the general “it’s not good for you” blah blah blah. Yet, the sheer pleasure it brings with every sip is hard to deny. It’s a taste of pure, unadulterated joy for me.

Because of its indulgent nature, I exercise considerable self-control. I try my absolute best not to drink it very often. For me, Coca-Cola is a precious treat, a reward reserved for special occasions. It typically becomes my weekly indulgence, often aligning with a “cheat date” where I allow myself a little extra pleasure without guilt. I’ve even made a pact with myself: if enjoying one coke means I need to push myself to run an extra mile at the gym, then so be it! That commitment helps me maintain balance and ensures that my cherished fizzy drink remains a delightful, occasional luxury rather than a daily habit. It’s a small concession for a moment of pure, carbonated bliss.

Facebook or Twitter

When it comes to social media platforms, my allegiance firmly lies with Facebook. It’s my go-to for connecting with friends and family, sharing life updates, and staying in the loop with a more personal, community-oriented feel. Facebook offers a rich tapestry of interactions, from detailed posts and photo albums to event invitations and group discussions, all of which resonate deeply with my preference for comprehensive and visually engaging communication.

Twitter, on the other hand, is a platform I admire from a distance. While I often find myself scrolling through others’ tweets, catching up on news, trends, and witty observations, I rarely take the plunge to post my own thoughts. I want to get more into Twitter, recognizing its power for real-time updates and concise information sharing. However, the rapid-fire nature and the art of expressing oneself in short, impactful bursts haven’t quite become second nature to me. I appreciate its utility, but my comfort zone remains firmly planted in the more expansive and personal world of Facebook. Perhaps one day I’ll conquer the art of the tweet, but for now, Facebook remains my preferred digital dwelling.

My Passion

While I genuinely enjoy my job and value the collaborative environment with all my wonderful colleagues, my true, undeniable passion at this particular stage of my life is roller derby. It’s a sport that captured my heart and ignited a fire within me, unlike anything I’ve experienced before. I’ve always been drawn to competitive sports, thriving on the challenge and the thrill of pushing my limits. Roller derby, however, offers a unique blend of athleticism, strategy, and fierce camaraderie that is simply unparalleled.

My introduction to this exhilarating sport came many years ago, on what was then a memorable date. From the moment I witnessed the raw power, agility, and strategic maneuvers on the track, I instantly fell in love. The energy in the arena was electric, the skaters were incredibly inspiring, and the entire atmosphere was absolutely captivating. It was a revelation, a sport that combined grace with grit, speed with tactical thinking, and individual strength with unwavering team support.

Since then, roller derby has become more than just a hobby; it’s a significant part of my identity. It demands intense physical training, from mastering skating techniques to building endurance and strength. But it’s also incredibly mentally stimulating, requiring quick decision-making, strategic play, and seamless communication with teammates. The sense of empowerment I gain from strapping on my skates and hitting the track is immense. It’s a place where I can channel my competitive spirit, continuously learn and grow, and be part of an incredible community of strong, diverse, and supportive individuals.

The bonds forged on the derby track are unlike any other. We train together, we strategize together, we fall and get back up together. It’s a sisterhood built on mutual respect, shared ambition, and an unyielding passion for the sport. Roller derby challenges me in the best possible ways, constantly pushing me beyond what I thought were my limits. It teaches resilience, discipline, and the profound value of teamwork. You can definitely expect to find me talking about roller derby a lot here on the blog, sharing my experiences, insights, and perhaps even some behind-the-scenes glimpses into this incredible world. It’s a passion that truly defines a significant part of who I am.

Favorite Animal

This is another tough one, mainly because my love for animals runs incredibly deep, making it nearly impossible to pick just one! However, if pressed, I would lean towards dogs as my ultimate favorite. There’s an unparalleled joy and unconditional love that comes from canine companionship. Their loyalty, boundless energy, and playful antics never fail to bring a smile to my face. The way they greet you after a long day, their comforting presence, and their eagerness for an adventure make them truly special members of any family.

But let’s be clear, my affection doesn’t stop there. Cats also hold a very dear place in my heart. Their independent spirits, graceful movements, and the soothing purr of a content feline are incredibly charming. There’s a quiet elegance to cats, a mysterious allure that makes them fascinating companions. And then there are birds! The vibrant colors, melodious songs, and the sheer freedom they represent are captivating. Watching them soar or simply flit about is a constant source of wonder.

In essence, I just really like all animals! Each species, from the smallest insect to the largest mammal, possesses unique qualities that contribute to the rich tapestry of life on Earth. Their innocence, resilience, and the pure, unadulterated joy they can bring to our lives are truly remarkable. Whether it’s a furry friend curled up on the couch, a feathered companion singing from a tree, or any creature living in its natural habitat, I find immense happiness and fascination in the animal kingdom. My heart simply swells with appreciation for every single one of them.

Giving or Receiving Presents

I’m going to be completely honest here, without a shred of hesitation: I absolutely adore receiving presents. Who doesn’t love the thrill of unwrapping a thoughtful gift, the surprise of discovering something new, or the simple joy of knowing someone thought of you? The anticipation, the pretty wrapping, the moment of revelation—it’s all part of a wonderfully exciting experience that never fails to put a huge smile on my face.

There’s a unique charm in being on the receiving end, feeling appreciated and celebrated. It’s not about the monetary value, but the sentiment behind it, the idea that someone took the time and effort to select something specifically for you. That being said, the joy of giving is also profoundly rewarding. There’s a deep satisfaction in seeing someone’s face light up with happiness because of a gift you’ve given. Thoughtfully choosing a present that you know will delight a loved one, and witnessing their genuine reaction, is a truly heartwarming experience. So while my initial instinct leans towards receiving, the act of giving also brings its own wonderful set of rewards and connects us in meaningful ways. Both are truly special, but if I had to choose, the excitement of receiving just edges it out!

Favorite Flower

My heart belongs to two exquisite flowers: Garden Roses and peonies. If I could, I would have them in elegant vases gracing every corner of my home, all the time. There’s an unparalleled beauty and romance in both of these blooms that captivates me endlessly.

Garden Roses, with their lush, multi-petaled heads and often intoxicating fragrance, evoke a sense of classic elegance and timeless beauty. They come in such a breathtaking array of colors, each carrying its own unique charm and story. Whether it’s a delicate blush, a creamy white, or a vibrant crimson, the depth and texture of a garden rose are simply mesmerizing. They bring an old-world charm and a sophisticated touch to any setting, filling the air with their sweet perfume.

Peonies, on the other hand, are pure opulence. Their enormous, fluffy blooms, bursting with layers of soft, ruffled petals, are a sight to behold. They signify prosperity, good fortune, and a happy marriage, making them symbolically rich as well as visually stunning. The way they transform from tight, promising buds into magnificent, voluminous blossoms is truly a marvel of nature. Both garden roses and peonies have the power to instantly elevate a space, infusing it with natural beauty, delicate fragrance, and a feeling of luxurious freshness. They are more than just flowers; they are expressions of artistry and grace, and having them around constantly would be an absolute dream.

I hope you enjoyed this little journey into some of my favorite things and passions! It’s always fun to reflect and share these personal tidbits. Engaging in surveys like this not only allows me to connect with you on a deeper level but also gives me a chance to appreciate the smaller joys and defining elements of my life. I encourage you to think about your own favorite things – perhaps you’ll discover something new about yourself too!
