From Barcelona’s Buzz to the Azure Mediterranean
Our grand European escapade began in the vibrant city of Barcelona, Spain. We dedicated a full day to exploring its rich tapestry of culture, architecture, and gastronomy before embarking on our spectacular week-long Mediterranean cruise. Barcelona immediately charmed us with its unique blend of Gothic and modernist design, bustling markets, and lively streets. It was the perfect prelude to the maritime adventure that awaited us.
The cruise itinerary was packed with incredible destinations, promising a whirlwind tour of history, art, and natural beauty. Our ports of call included the historical wonders of Naples (and nearby Pompeii), the eternal city of Rome, the picturesque port of Marseille, and the stunning island paradise of Palma de Mallorca. Unfortunately, due to uncooperative weather, our planned stop in Florence and Pisa was cancelled. I was genuinely disappointed, as I had envisioned capturing that quintessential, albeit cheesy, photo of me “holding up” the Leaning Tower. But as any seasoned traveler knows, sometimes plans change, and you simply have to embrace the unexpected. I’ve already added it to my list for “next time”!

After the cruise concluded, we returned to Barcelona for another day of exploration, soaking in more of its captivating atmosphere. From there, we hopped across to Paris for a few enchanting days. Ah, Paris! It truly holds a special place in my heart, even though it surprisingly turned out to be my mom’s least favorite part of the entire trip. Despite differing opinions, Paris always delivers an undeniable magic, from its iconic landmarks to its charming cafes and hidden alleys. It’s a city that breathes history and romance, and I relished every moment of our time there.

You might be surprised to learn that every single one of the breathtaking photos you’re about to see was captured on my iPhone! I actually brought my trusty point-and-shoot camera along, fully intending to use it. However, the sheer convenience and excellent quality of my iPhone camera meant I often opted for the simpler choice. It allowed me to be less conspicuous, quicker to snap a candid moment, and frankly, a bit lazier when it came to hauling extra equipment. Modern smartphone cameras have truly revolutionized travel photography, making it easier than ever to document adventures without sacrificing too much quality. For a casual traveler like me, it was the perfect companion.

Every travel destination has its unique array of souvenirs, some charming, some kitschy, and some… quite unexpected. While I didn’t purchase these, they certainly caught my eye and added a layer of humor to our explorations!

No trip to Paris would be complete without a brush with its incredible art and culture. The Louvre Museum, home to countless masterpieces, was a must-visit, primarily to see one very famous lady.
This famous little lady, the Mona Lisa, is truly a phenomenon. While I dared not get any closer, as it would have meant navigating through a sea of enthusiastic onlookers (and I’m not a big fan of angry crowds!), seeing her iconic smile in person, even from a distance, was an experience in itself. The aura surrounding this masterpiece is palpable, drawing millions from around the globe.
And look, some locks! Paris, the city of love, is renowned for its romantic traditions, including the once-popular love locks. While many have since been removed, the sentiment behind them still lingers, adding to the city’s enchanting atmosphere.
