Dependable Instant Pot Basmati Rice on the Stove

Reliable Instant Pot Basmati Rice Recipe- this dish shows you how to make reliable basmati rice, every time, right in your instant pot!

Have you caved to the pressure of the Instant Pot craze yet?? I’m usually a sucker for food trends like the Instant Pot but I’m happy to say that this is one of those bulky kitchen devices that is 1000% worth the money! We use ours at least once a week but often it’s more like 3-4 times per week.

For the first year that we had it (I think we’ve had ours for about 3 years), I used it almost exclusively for rice and quinoa. I’m not sure if it was laziness or what but I never ventured away from rice and quinoa in the instant pot. Then, as it started to get a lot more popular, my video clients were requesting more and more Instant Pot recipe which forced me to try new things.

I’ve now made a WIDE plethora of recipes in my Instant Pot and still love it simply as much as when I first got it a few years ago.

But TODAY we’re only talking about rice. This DEPENDABLE Instant Pot Basmati Rice! I make this rice in my instant pot at least about once per week because I’m completely obsessed. Sometimes I venture away from basmati rice (to other white rices because I do not understand people that willingly eat brown rice) but mostly….it’s basmati!

Why Basmati Rice? It’s only what I prefer and the type of rice that I eat most often. I typically buy a big bag of it at Costco that will last us quite a few months. So, I figured the QUITE simple recipe that I use should live here on the blog:)

What is Basmati Rice?

Basmati rice is a long grain rice that is often served with curries and and other Indian food. It has a slightly more nutty and floral taste to it than other rices and can be found in both white basmati rice and brown basmati rice.

Basmati rice has ALWAYS been my go to rice in our house. Honestly, it’s truly the only kind I make:)

How to Cook Basmati Rice?

The whole point of the Instant Pot is that it’s SO straightforward (and makes great rice!).

Only pour the rice and water into the Instant Pot, close the lid, and seal the valve. I never use the rice setting but instead have found the manual setting, high pressure, for 8 minutes to be the dependable option.

My Instant Pot takes about 10 minutes to pressurize and then 8 minutes to cook. SO, it’s not THAT much faster than cooking rice on the stovetop but SO much easier and you don’t have to actually do anything. <<<my kind of cooking:)
