My extraordinary weekend officially kicked off at precisely 11:37 AM on Friday, a moment etched into my memory. This was the exact time I submitted my completed comprehensive exam to the Dean of my program. The feeling that washed over me in that instant was indescribable – a profound mix of relief, exhilaration, and sheer exhaustion. This monumental hurdle, a rite of passage for any master’s candidate, represents the culmination of countless hours of study, research, and relentless dedication. Assuming all goes well and I’ve passed, I am now officially on the home stretch, counting down the days until May 10th, when I will proudly receive my Master’s degree. Oh, the sweet sensation of being done with that demanding test! It truly feels like shedding a massive weight, allowing for a newfound lightness of spirit.
To properly commemorate such a significant achievement, a classmate and I wasted no time heading straight for a well-deserved glass of Sangria. It was the perfect toast to intellectual freedom and the exciting chapter ahead. Recognizing the importance of truly unwinding after such intense academic pressure, I made a deliberate decision to take the entire day off from work. This commitment to self-care meant dedicating the rest of my Friday to pure relaxation, indulging in a backlog of movies from Redbox that I had put off for far too long. And yes, for those wondering, Disney’s “Frozen” absolutely lives up to the hype! It’s charming, witty, and heartwarming, making it a strong contender to be the first children’s movie I purchase for myself since, well, I was a child. (And for the curious minds, I also thoroughly enjoyed “American Hustle” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” – a diverse cinematic feast indeed!).

Capturing Tiny Miracles: The Art and Challenge of Newborn Photography
Saturday morning was dedicated to a truly special project: photographing a friend’s precious newborn daughter. This particular shoot had been a source of much fretting for weeks leading up to it, as I was determined for it to be perfect. Photographing newborn babies, as anticipated, proved to be an incredibly unique and challenging art form. It demands immense patience, a gentle touch, and an understanding of how to safely pose these tiny humans to capture their innocent beauty. My apprehension was compounded by my almost complete lack of experience with babies; to be perfectly honest, their fragility and smallness can sometimes be a little intimidating!
Nevertheless, little Gabby, all five pounds of beautiful baby girl, was an absolute dream to work with. Despite my initial nerves, the experience was profoundly rewarding. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have photographed her and, through the process, I definitely learned a tremendous amount about the nuances of newborn photography. It’s a field that requires a delicate balance of technical skill, artistic vision, and intuitive understanding. I can hardly wait to meticulously edit all the enchanting photos and share them with the world, preserving these fleeting first moments for her family to cherish forever.
Roller Derby Thrills: Back on the Track and Ready to Roll
Saturday night brought a different kind of thrill: our pre-season home game for Roller Derby! For those unfamiliar with this exhilarating sport, this post offers a great introduction to Roller Derby. The atmosphere was electric, and our team delivered a fantastic performance, securing a nice win. This season has already proven to be incredibly busy and exciting, filled with rigorous training, strategic planning, and growing team camaraderie. I’m genuinely anxious to see what we can accomplish together as a team this year, pushing our limits and achieving new heights on the track.
Perhaps one of the most exciting prospects of completing my Master’s degree is the freedom it brings to fully immerse myself in Roller Derby. Balancing demanding academic responsibilities with the intense commitment of practices and workouts has been a constant challenge, often forcing me to miss valuable training time. But now, with my comprehensive exam behind me, those days are officially over! I am eagerly looking forward to replacing late-night studying with early morning skate sessions and intensive team practices, dedicating more energy and focus to my passion for derby. The thought of stepping onto the track with renewed vigor and a clear mind is incredibly motivating.
A Sunday Full of Smiles: From Mermaids to Family Portraits
Sunday, much like Saturday, was a marathon of photography, culminating in approximately 1000 pictures captured throughout the day! My day began with a wonderfully lively birthday party for a delightful two-year-old mermaid enthusiast. You might remember her cheerful face from previous posts:
Capturing the unbridled energy and genuine happiness of a child’s birthday party is always a treat. The vibrant colors, the joyful expressions, and the spontaneous moments make for truly dynamic photographs. Following the birthday festivities, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with an old friend from high school. We met up in the beautiful setting of Centennial Park, where she entrusted me with the wonderful task of taking some pictures of her lovely family. It was a perfect day for a photo shoot, with ideal lighting and a picturesque backdrop.
Among the many wonderful shots from the family session, I successfully managed to capture a truly magical “glitter blowing shot.” This particular type of photograph, where someone blows a handful of glitter towards the camera, creates an ethereal and whimsical effect, symbolizing joy, dreams, and celebration. It’s notoriously difficult to get just right, requiring precise timing and perfect lighting, but the results are always breathtaking. Honestly, if that had been the *only* noteworthy image I captured all weekend, I still would have considered the entire experience a resounding success. The anticipation of editing and sharing these cherished family moments is immense, and I’m eager to present them soon!
